General

How long do sessions run for?

Our student sessions generally run for approximately 50 minutes and are designed to sit within a single lesson period.

What is the program cost?

Cost will vary depending upon the number of participants involved, number of sessions delivered, and the location of the school. Please contact us directly so we can provide you with a quote.

What is a good audience size / how many students can you cater for in a single session?

Most of our sessions are designed for a full year level cohort. We prefer to work with a maximum of 120 students, but can be flexible. Our programs can also be delivered in small group environments.

Can you do multiple sessions on the same day?

Yes, we can do multiple sessions on the same day. Generally we try to limit this to 3-4 sessions on a day, but can extend this if need be.

Do you tour regional areas?

Yes, we regularly tour into regional and remote areas. Please contact us if you would like to organise a tour into your region.

Are AV facilities required?

Yes. We need to show a PowerPoint presentation or some videos, depending on the incursion, so we need a screen and a projector. We prefer to work from a school laptop – this minimises the chance of any technical problems on the day. For larger venues, a microphone and PA system is highly advantageous. Cordless microphones are best, but hand held will also work.

Does a deposit need to be paid?

No. We will send a confirmation letter with full details of the presentation once the booking is finalised, and then invoice the school after the session.

When is payment required?

We will invoice the school after the program.

What if I need to change the date and time, or cancel a booking?

We know how busy schools can be, and we are always happy to work with you to change dates or times.

An administration fee of $40 + GST will be applied for date/time changes made after confirming a booking.
If a confirmed booking has been made, and you need to change the date with less than two weeks' notice a $250 fee will apply. (If you only need to change the time, but not the date, only the $40 administration fee will apply).
If you need to cancel, a 50% cancellation fee will be charged if a mutually suitable replacement date cannot be found and less than a full term's notice is provided.
If an incursion is canceled less than 14 days before the scheduled event date, and a mutually suitable replacement date cannot be found, the full fee will be charged.
There will be no cancellation fees if the event cannot proceed or is delayed for any COVID-related issues.

Is teacher supervision required?

To assist with student management, we recommend that one teacher per class be present at the incursion. For OH&S reasons, we require at least one teacher to be present with your event host at all times when students are present.

Mathematics

How long do Maths incursions run for?

Our incursions generally run for approximately 50 minutes and are designed to sit within a single lesson period. An exception is the Junior Maths Show which runs for approximately 40 minutes.

What age groups do Maths programs cater for?

We have a range of presentations suitable for Years P - 10 as follows:

The Maths Show: Year 2 - 8, with tailored versions for different year levels.

The Junior Maths Show: Prep - Year 2

The Maths Escape Room: Banded questions for Year 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10.

The Amazing Maths Race: Banded questions for Year 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10.

The Maths and Sport Show: Year 3-8, with tailored versions for primary and secondary students.

The Maths Mindset Show: Years 3-6.

When are Maths sessions available?

We have dedicated presenters in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane/South East QLD and are available in these areas all year round. We generally tour Adelaide three times a year, ACT twice a year, and FNQ twice a year. We regularly tour other regional areas, please contact us for regional tour availability.

What venue type is required for Maths incursions?

For our seated, audience-style presentations we can work in a theatre, theatrette, school hall, library, gym or other multipurpose area. Allow approximately 8m wide x 5m deep for a performance area, and then space for students to be seated. We can work on a raised stage or a flat floor, and find it best if students are seated on chairs.

For Maths Escape Room we need an indoor area approximately the size of a basketball court, depending on the number of students. We can also work in a library or appropriately sized multipurpose area.

For The Amazing Maths Race, we need a 'Home Base' location where we do an initial briefing with students. This needs to be large enough to accommodate all of the students involved in the race and allow them to work on the floor in groups of four. A school hall, library, gym or other multipurpose area works well. We also need other race 'locations' around the school where students will run, as outlined in the teacher kit.

What is a good audience size / how many students can you cater for in a single Maths session?

For our 'sit-down' / audience style presentations such as The Maths Show, we recommend 80 - 120 students per presentation but can work with smaller or larger groups.

For our more active presentations where students are on their feet and moving around such as The Amazing Maths Race or The Maths Escape Room, we recommend 50 - 80 students per session. We can work with smaller groups and can stretch the maximum number of students up to approximately 100 in a session if need be.

How does the Amazing Maths Race work?

Students move around in groups of four to various locations in the school. They solve Maths challenges and puzzles as they go. Students move around the school in groups of four solving Maths challenges as they go. Successfully solving a challenge reveals the location of the next challenge. Students keep moving around the school until all eight Maths challenges have been solved.

How does the Maths Escape Room work?

Students work in groups of four solving a series of fun Maths challenges and puzzles as they move around the escape room. They need to solve eight Maths challenges before they can ‘escape the room’. Our staff will arrive at the school to set up our escape room in a suitable venue. We provide pull-up banners, locked boxes etc, but ask that the school provide eight small tables. We need the tables to put our materials on, students will work on the floor in their groups.

Wellbeing

What age groups do student Wellbeing programs cater for?

Our main focus is on senior students, especially those in Year 12. Some of our programs can be adapted for junior secondary students and also primary students.

What is a good number of participants for your Teacher PD sessions?

We prefer to work with no more than 30 teachers at a time. We can work with larger groups if appropriate facilities are available at the school.

When are Wellbeing programs available?

Our wellbeing programs are based in Melbourne and are available their all year round. We regularly travel throughout Australia with both our student and our teacher sessions, so contact us to find out when we are next available in your area.

What venue type is required for Wellbeing sessions?

We can work in a theater, theatrette, school hall, library, gym or other multipurpose area. A quiet venue away from noise or distractions from other students is best (although we know this is not always easy in a school situation). Many of our programs require participants to spend some time doing relaxation or meditation exercises while lying on the floor - we will discuss these requirements directly with you.

Are follow on resources provided?

Yes, we provide a range of follow-on resources to help embed the learning and so that students/teachers can benefit from the programs on an ongoing basis.
